The scheme involved the extension of the passenger search areas in Terminal 1 & Terminal 2 to enable a larger flow of passengers through the security search areas. This was a very demanding contract, as we had to programme the project in a meticulous manner to avoid causing disruption to passengers in this very busy “24/7” environment. The work involved creating a new restricted zone area with 1-hour fire rated walls (RZ Walls) with high tensile steel security mesh and high impact wall panelling. We also undertook the installation of a comfort cooling ventilation system and associated electrical work, including specialist lighting, for use in conjunction with the relocated X-ray machines. Because of the sensitive nature of both the clients operations and the general environment, we had to ensure our operatives and management were Home Office cleared. In addition, Sandell were required to provide £40million of airside insurance, professional indemnity insurances and a performance guarantee bond for the project value in order to be awarded the contract. |
